1- The overwhelming majority of people erase this "impractical, other worldly rule" from their daily life.
A rare few followed a praiseworthy but tremendous modification of this rule.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Mahatma Ghandi, for instance, engaged in nonviolent civil disobedience to "resist evil."
The inspiration for these acts originally comes from the Judean demonstrators against Pilate’s oppressive rule.
The aim, then, as now, is, precisely to "resist evil," so people will learn to do good.
No one followed Matthew’s words put in the mouth of Jesus: "Do Not Resist Evil." Matthew 5:39.See, Nonviolent Protest for Peace First in History Against Fiction of Saintly Pilate in NT.
This article, consequently, follows the ethical rule of "turning the left cheek," as a metaphorical point of truth.
It is very positive to take a wise risk to do all things possible to turn an " immoral enemy into a righteous person." In doing so,one must, however, do the utmost to preserve one’s life and limb.
